It’s easy to feel that, once you reach adulthood, a summer day is just like any other day. One Friday in June you might be working--the same way you do in the dead of winter--or cooking dinner, or cleaning out your email. Just like any other day.
Who am I kidding?
As I was drifting off to sleep last night, I remembered that I hadn’t written this week’s dispatch. A few other things had grabbed my attention instead ...
full days in the garden, tending to veggies that are finally starting to look less like seedlings and more like grown-ups
fun and educational workshops with my Tai Chi Vermont teacher colleagues
community events supporting my favorite small businesses, where I run into friends and neighbors
practice time with my toes in the grass, using Mount Ascutney as my focal point
Yes, some activities we do all year long. But they just feel soooo much bigger--and better--come summer ...
an aliveness to prepping dinner in June, especially when it includes just-picked lettuce and crunchy radishes that were mere seeds just weeks ago
a sense of relaxation to folks sampling homemade items at local farmers markets
a closer connection to nature as our activities move outdoors (or, when we can’t be fully outside, we bring it in by throwing open doors and windows)
If it’s summer where you are, I hope you, too, are making the most of these months, whatever that may look like. If you feel moved to share, let us know how you’ve been spending your longer—though now growing shorter!—warm days.
